On 18th February, Sam attended the EE BAFTAs held at the Royal Albert Hall in London. As always he made time for fans who were patiently waiting on the red carpet before making his way over to pose for photos. He looked very dapper in a black tuxedo and was sporting a ‘Times Up’ badge in support of the recent movement which supports and backs those who have experienced sexual harassment, assault, or abuse in the workplace.

Whilst at the ceremony he took to the stage with fellow actor Will Poulter to present the award for Best Sound which went to the team behind Dunkirk. For this part he was wearing his specs and looked even more dashing, if that is even possible! They then posed for photos with the winners backstage.

Our fave guy is a busy bee this year! Another incredible project has just been announced for Sam. He will star opposite Fifty Shades star Jamie Dornan in IRA thriller Borderland according to Screen Daily

Synopsis – Borderland will focus on two men on opposite sides of the bloody conflict between the IRA and the British government. When an IRA operative (Dornan) is dispatched to London to head a new unit and wreak havoc, he uses the move to hunt down the person responsible for the accidental lethal shooting of his wife – an SAS captain (Clafin) who happens to be hunting the Irishman.

Production will begin in Dublin and London this Summer. The film is being produced by Unanimous Entertainment & Parallel Film Productions, and will be directed by Game of Thrones director Brian Kirk. The screenplay is by Ronan Bennett and is based upon real life events which are documented in the book The Road To Balcombe Street by Dr Stephen Moysey.

Yet another incredible role for Sam to choose. We are so excited to see work on this commence & will be sure to bring you updates as and when we can!

Journeys-End-Screen-Image

As you may know Journey’s End was released in the UK on February 2nd. A couple of interviews were released for the occasion. Sam shares with us a bit of his life, mentioning his family as well as his career choices.

My latest film, Journey’s End, is set in the First World War. I play a mentally disintegrating officer, Captain Stanhope. When I read the script, I was sold — hook, line and sinker. I’d never call myself a method actor, but I do sometimes find that I take my work home with me. I’d been walking around on set being angry all day, pretending I was drunk. Laura understood the need for me to have some quiet time after all that.” – Read more at The Sunday Time, “A Life In The Day: Sam Claflin“.

Stanhope is the character that everyone wants to play. What’s interesting about him is that he’s still a young lad, but at the same time he’s lived and experienced so much he’s like a 60-year-old man, you know? “I think there are some similarities between myself and Stanhope. For example, his anger comes from fear and when I get scared, I tend to take it out on people—the people I love and who are closest to me. I think everyone does to an extent.” – Read more at Readers Digest.

Exciting news! The Hollywood Reporter announced today that Sam has joined the cast of British indie thriller The Corrupted alongside some incredible acting talent including Timothy Spall and Hugh Bonneville.

The Corrupted will see Sam playing an ex-con determined to win back the love and trust of his family. That’s after his future was stolen from him by a crime syndicate run by Clifford Cullen (Spall), who has infiltrated the highest levels of politics, finance and police. Claflin’s character finds himself caught up in a web of conspiracy and corruption centering around a land grab just before the Olympic Games in London.

The Exchange will be handling sales of the film with Eclipse Films producing and Ron Scalpello directing. Brian O’Shea, CEO of The Exchange is quoted as saying “Sam has come into his own as a leading man with worldwide box-office appeal. This contemporary thriller is a perfect vehicle to strengthen his value for international distribution“.

Filming will commence in London on March 2nd. Yet another exciting and different role for our fave guy! We are excited to hear more about the film & his role in it as filming gets underway!

After hearing the exciting news back in December that Sam had appeared on the longlist for the Best Actor award at the Evening Standard British Film Awards for his incredible portrayal of Captain Stanhope in Journey’s End, we were thrilled to hear the news that he has now made it onto the shortlist for the category and is therefore in the running to receive the prestigious award alongside some other very worthy contenders.

We are so happy that Sam has been recognised for his role in this beautiful film, which tells the story of a group of soldiers during the First World War all awaiting their fate from a dugout in Northern France as the Germans prepare an attack. As Captain Stanhope, Sam portrays a young officer in charge of these men as his own mental state disintegrates. We were lucky enough to see the film at last year’s London Film Festival premiere and couldn’t be more proud that Sam has been recognised for such a heartfelt and beautiful portrayal. We will keep our fingers crossed for him!

The Evening Standard British Film Awards ceremony will take place at Claridges in London on the 8th February. Good luck Sam!
