With thanks to Entertainment Weekly we are able to have our first exclusive look at Sam’s new film Their Finest. Based on the novel Their Finest Hour and a Half by Lissa Evans, the film follows a group of filmmakers charged with creating an inspiring film during the Blitz of London during World War II. Sam plays Tom Buckley, a lead writer for the Ministry of Information’s Film Division, a somewhat tetchy, sarcastic man who clashes at first with Gemma Arterton’s character Catrin. It is a completely different character for Sam and we think you can see from the clip below that he is fantastic in it! We really cannot wait to see the full film when it is released!
On September 11th, Sam’s latest film Their Finest had its world premiere at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival and Sam was there alongside co-stars Gemma Arterton & Bill Nighy to promote it. The comedy drama, which follows a group of filmmakers charged with creating an inspiring film during the Blitz of London during World War II, will have its UK premiere on October 13th at the London Film Festival & it is already attracting some incredible reviews, including this one from Variety, in which Sam’s performance is praised highly:
Claflin reveals an entirely different side of his performing talents. His youthful good looks obscured by thick Joycean glasses, a slightly receded hairline, and that particular type of poor posture that can’t help but scream “writer,” the actor translates the insinuating arrogance of his “Hunger Games” role into tetchy, neurotic sarcasm with admirable success.
Anna from our team was lucky enough to be a juror at Giffoni Film Festival, which Sam attended on July 21st and she was present at the Meet The Stars Q&A session that he took part in. She has written all about her experience, which you can read below. She also managed to take some gorgeous photos & videos so check those out too! Read more »
Originally known as Their Finest Hour And A Half and then condensed to Their Finest (or We Happy Few), Sam’s latest film will have a Gala screening at Toronto International Film Festival which will take place from the 8th to the 18th September 2016.
Starring alongside Gemma Arterton & Bill Nighy to name a few, Sam will portray Buckley in the big screen adaptation of Lissa Evans’ 2010 novel. The British romantic comedy set in WWII will make its début at TIFF, just like The Riot Club did back in 2014. We can’t wait for the fun to begin!
It looks like Sam had an incredible time at Giffoni Film Festival! Despite the heat of the Italian summer, he arrived with a cheery smile, greeting fans lined up outside the venue and then heading in for a Q&A session (that was fortunately live-streamed for international fans!) to start the day. From fatherhood to football, LAMDA, love and Finnick Odair, he entertained the audience with his stories; reminding everyone that it’s always important to keep yourself surrounded by friends & family.
Flying to Naples for an appearance at the Giffoni International Film Festival on July 21st, Sam was sweet enough, as always, to take photos with fans at the airport. We hope he has a great time and enjoys the sunshine and lovely sights that Italy has to offer!
Happy Happy Birthday to our favourite guy! Today Sam turned the big 3-0 and fans from across the world came together to wish him the happiest of days. Thank you so much to everyone who took part in the birthday video for him & if you haven’t yet seen it then check it out below!
For those of you wondering about the scrapbook it has now been sent to Sam’s agents & as soon as he recieves it we will be sure to post some photos – obviously we need to keep it a surprise for him until then!
Once again – Happy 30th Birthday Sam We hope you have an amazing day – you deserve it! x
Sam, along with his Me Before You co-star Emilia Clarke, author of the book Jojo Moyes & director Thea Sharrock were photographed by Sarah Dunn for some special promotional shots for the film. And aren’t they stunning? Photographs sourced from @EmiliaClarkeTM on Twitter.
Some lucky fans got the chance to meet Sam & his lovely wife Laura Haddock in Brighton on Wednesday & Thursday this week. Laura was in the seaside town to film her new upcoming drama The Level for ITV & as always they were more than happy to take the time to have these lovely photos taken!
