With thanks to Entertainment Weekly we are able to have our first exclusive look at Sam’s new film Their Finest. Based on the novel Their Finest Hour and a Half by Lissa Evans, the film follows a group of filmmakers charged with creating an inspiring film during the Blitz of London during World War II. Sam plays Tom Buckley, a lead writer for the Ministry of Information’s Film Division, a somewhat tetchy, sarcastic man who clashes at first with Gemma Arterton’s character Catrin. It is a completely different character for Sam and we think you can see from the clip below that he is fantastic in it! We really cannot wait to see the full film when it is released!
On September 11th, Sam’s latest film Their Finest had its world premiere at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival and Sam was there alongside co-stars Gemma Arterton & Bill Nighy to promote it. The comedy drama, which follows a group of filmmakers charged with creating an inspiring film during the Blitz of London during World War II, will have its UK premiere on October 13th at the London Film Festival & it is already attracting some incredible reviews, including this one from Variety, in which Sam’s performance is praised highly:
Claflin reveals an entirely different side of his performing talents. His youthful good looks obscured by thick Joycean glasses, a slightly receded hairline, and that particular type of poor posture that can’t help but scream “writer,” the actor translates the insinuating arrogance of his “Hunger Games” role into tetchy, neurotic sarcasm with admirable success.
